Black Birds

by Tea With Warriors

/

lyrics

winter wraps around us
black birds tumble through the empty sky
just rooks and wires
shingled roofs and gothic spires

this morning is just shades of gray
asphalt soot and dirty snow
dark holes in sides of houses
before morning's incandescence
and the television's glow

pale waves in a pillowy world
distant objects removed from sight
laying down night becomes day
cold becomes numb
under my lids, the deep dark white

setting off from the tops of skies
swooping down from a dizzy height
beating wings and piercing cries
it's the sound of birds in flight
caw-caw-caw-phony!
